Refurbished Souls — David B. Mauzy, 2000
Refurbished Souls
Far too often, it seems,
we find ourselves battered and bruised
by a world indifferent to us,
a society that simply could not care less
about our hopes and dreams, our aspirations and longings, our needs and desires.
It is a cruelty that is unintentional;
a callousness caused more by indifference than by any malignancy.
Yet in the midst of chaos, struggle, and doubt,
we find glimmers of grace, rays of hope, moments of peace.
In those moments,
we find our minds renewed,
our souls refurbished,
our hearts refreshed.
The halcyon days of summer often provide such glimmers of grace.
A soft sunrise, with the dew cool underfoot.
The pure joy in a child's laughter.
Shady nooks and deep pools.
The dazzle of fireworks and the awe their brilliance inspires.
The adventure of family vacations and personal journeys.
New places. New experiences.
New friends and new ideas.
May this summer be one filled with glimmers of grace,
rays of hope, and moments of peace.
A summer of renewal,
a season of refurbished souls.
